Plan for Retrieval of Student Belongings

Tuesday May 26, 2020

Good evening Ian Forsyth Families,

We have been working together as a staff to create a plan for the safe retrieval of student personal belongings from school. Tonight I can share that plan with you.

Teachers are working at organizing student belongings during the next two weeks. All of these materials are being placed in clear garbage bags and labelled with student first name, last name and class. Families will be able to make appointments to pick up these bags of belongings starting on June 8th. All access to belongings needs to be done through scheduled appointments.

Your access to student belongings needs to be done in a controlled and safe fashion. Although we would love to chat and catch-up with you when you retrieve your child’s belongings, this is not the time to do that. We have arranged 5-minute appointment slots for families and we need to be efficient in order to maintain that schedule. If you need to speak to someone at school please email your child’s teacher or call the school main line.

During the retrieval of personal items it is imperative that allpublic health directive are followed; practice social distancing of 2 meters, regular hand washing, cough into sleeve, and no large group gathering. While the use of masks or gloves is not required, if individuals choose to wear these while they are on site, it is your own choice and you must provide your own equipment.  If you are exhibiting any COVID-related symptoms you may not come to pick up student materials. You can contact school administration directly (ayerxa@hrce.ca) to make alternate arrangements. We strongly ask that only one member of your household be present to collect items.

Your child’s classroom teacher will be contacting you via email by Friday of this week (May 29th) with more information about booking an appointment. The student materials of families with more than one child will be returned with the youngest sibling’s belongings. Please make sure the teacher of your youngest child has the first and last name of any other siblings along with their classes. All materials will be organized at school before your appointment time. If you have not arranged sibling pick-up before hand, we will not be able to accommodate that at your appointment time.

Any soap fundraiser items that you ordered will be included in the bag of student materials you pick up.  As well, we are organizing any Jump Rope for Heart prize items to be included with the bags. Teachers are contacting families who have school materials at home (library books, or other classroom materials). Please bring these with you when you come to pick up your child’s belongings. There will be a bin present that you will be able to deposit those items in.

Except for primary students, return of student materials will take place at three main school doors; the main entrance, the primary doors (to the far left side of the school) and the Learning Centre entrance doors (not normally used, to the far right front of the school). Primary teachers will be distributing student belongings from the outside exit doors of their classrooms.

Please be on time for your appointment. It is expected that you will practice 2-metre social distancing while you wait for your appointment. Tables will be placed outside of those main doors, 2-metres away from the entrance door (weather permitting) or inside the entrance door 2-metres away from contact to anyone. At your appointed time, adults collecting belongings will approach the table. You will need to indicate to school staff whose belongings you are picking up. Staff will match the student name(s) with the name(s) on their appointment list and bring the belongings to the table. If there are multiple siblings in the family, those bags will have already been arranged together and all of those bags will be brought to the table. Adult will take belongings from the table and leave the premises.

If you have any questions, please address those with your child’s classroom teacher when they contact you.
